Iceland & The Netherlands Climate Change Impacts and Solutions

Participants travel to Iceland to experience the impact that climate change is having on our planet.  On this program, we visit and explore many of the unique facets of Iceland - 30 volcanic systems, geysers, ice caps, and glaciers,  Participants learn from expert Geologists about the formation of Iceland and how this  unique  environment represents the evolution of Earth's physical form and how it has been changing naturally and due to human disturbance over time.

The second part of the program takes participants to The Netherlands where they learn what is being done in urban environments as well as within the agricultural and business sectors to mitigate the  human impact on climate change.  This part of the program consists of "Sustainable Cities Netherlands" program components.

Sustainable Cities The Netherlands

Participants hear first-hand from academics, city planners, and other advocates about the key events that led to successful sustainability endeavors for The Netherlands. We will experience one of the most innovative, sustainable transportation networks and immerse ourselves into the fabric of Dutch culture that enable it to be one of the most well-designed and  sustainable countries on the planet. 

Bicycling proficiency is strongly encouraged, however, anyone can participate.

Smart Cities, Start-Up Collaboration, & The Circular Economy

The Netherlands is the epitome of businss collaboration on the entrepreneural start-up and circular economy fronts.  Program participants hear presentations from industry leaders, and visit innovative organizations and collaborative business ventures such as: The Social Impact Hub, Epicenter, B. Amsterdam, Amsterdam Smart City, and Amsterdam Venture Studios at the University of Amsterdam.

Netherlands Wellness & Public Policy

Globally, the Netherlands ranks highly on various  health and wellness scales.  Lifestyle, access to healthy foods, excellent healthcare and education, and a  built environment that fosters healthy lifestyles all contribute to citizens of the Netherlands living comparatively healthier lives.   Traveling student groups will be introduced to policy-makers, and visit national institutions centered on improving the health of citizens.  This program has the option of being cycling intensive for groups of Fitness Education majors.
